Turning Point

We are at a turning point in the year: The first semester is over, Regents Week is upon us, President Barack Obama offers hope and change. We begin a new chapter in history, and in school, as we begin the Spring semester. Let's use this posting to reflect on all that we've been through since September and also to look ahead. Brandeis will begin "phasing out" next year, so how does this make you feel?

This time is a turning point indeed. What is a new high school semester today, will be choosing your college major tomorrow. As a 31 year old embarking on her own period of change, I can offer one important piece of advice: Enjoy every minute because 31 comes at you fast!

This year brings about a turning point for our country-we are now not just talking the talk but are walking the walk as we set an example for the world-that in America anyone can succeed. Hi guys, I met you all when we went on the MOMA trip. Hope you are all working hard and getting everything you can out of your education--there are no limits--if you apply yourself any goal can be accomplished! DLevine

I absolutely agree with the Levines! You are entering a world very different from the one of this previous generation. Growth and change--positive change--are things that you, your friends, and your family can thankfully look forward to. Make the most of your time, both in high school and beyond. Be a proactive part of society. You are definitely in a powerful position to make the changes you believe in. By the way, I miss you guys! Have a fabulous (and safe) rest of your year!

Hello! I am Becky, and have been Miss's friend since we were 8 years old. I just read a fantastic book - The Confessions of Nat Turner, By William Styron. This book was about the only successful slave revolt in US history. A must read! That's all for now...by the way: Hi Chris!!

It is true that this is a turning point. And with every change comes the opportunity to reevaluate your ideals, reassess your goals, and reinvent yourself. I hope that you use not only this turning point but all of the turning points throughout your life to take full advantage of the vast opportunities that will spread themselves before your feet.

Looks like everyone basically expressed everything I could've possibly stated. Ha, so there goes that!
I have to say, 2009 is already flying by a lot faster than I prefer.
The faster June arrives, the sooner I have to leave behind the life I've known for 17 years, a life full of irresponsibility and excuses. Of course I'm not THAT irresponsible or full of it, but still, once I hit 18, that immaturity will have to end completely.
I'm looking forward to Regents Week however. I don't have any regents, nor do I have any homework, so I guess it'll be a great time to "Read and write."
; ] Just kidding with the quotes, but yeah, This will be the perfect opportunity for me to work on my book and artwork.
Spring Semester is usually the best semester. I've come to notice that people are less stressed and are a lot happier during the spring. Perhaps it's because the sun shines a lot more than it does in the Fall. I don't know. I guess I have a lot going on in the Spring, but no one cares so to hell with it.
I'm not looking forward to 2/3/09...
At all...

I am in agreement with what all the others said . . .as for the reinventing part - I am looking forward to doing a bit of that myself this upcoming semester. One thing to remember though - don't leave behind everything. Take the good parts with you!
Like Chris I am looking forward to a sunshine filled Spring! I hope that all of my students join me in a return to class with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to work hard and push ourselves to the next level. And maybe we'll try to squeeze in a few laughs while we are at it ;).

well since ms levine sent me an email to check the blog i felt forced to since i would have no good excuse on monday of why i didnt. (<--what a complete run-on)
*and of course i was just kidding about that ms levine! =)*but anyways, i agree with the whole turning point business. im especially excited about the new semester. the second half of a school year always brings new things to do. especially since you already feel like you are somewhere that you belong. feeling comfortable with your teachers and your peers is important in a learning evironment. this hopefully means that grades will get better too!! (and more oppurtinities for community service will hopefully appear in this new semester ;]) im really excited for everything to officially begin. cant wait!

yes indeed this is a new fresh beginning and a chance to do better then the last semester, but now that we found out that Louis Brandeis is closing its so much pressure because of the fact that we well the kids thats are transferring are worried about what high school they going to etc.. but i think right now thats everyone should just be prepared in case of anything i just hope the scholars academy would stay :'(. Well for now i know for a fact that i am going to look at things in a positive way. And ms. Levine u should really think about Reblevine high school (with only scholars that is) :D

This year is a turning point indeed. We are all growing up and finding out who we are has a person. The news of Brandeis closing was a surpise, but I think everyone know it was coming. It is time for a change, but not to close the school.Brandeis has a lot of resourses that other schools don't have .Brandeis is not the best school, but it is a start of a new life for most students. This school is filled with peolpe from all walks of life. Brandeis in not just a building, it is also a home for some kids. What the news letter said about the students that attend Brandeis was a prejudice act because there was no one interview to hear the voice of students. But I understand things happen and things are said.

Hi, my name is Joshua and I have recently entered the scholars academy as a Freshman. I'm very interested in the different classes the scholars academy offers and im not transferring just because of three new schools! This school may be bad, but I believe that the students can make a change before Brandeis closes, hopefully enough to get us at least a B as an overall grade.

I agree with what Chris said.
ahhhh... linger longer.

Wow Chris, nice photo... =P
Turning point... that's how i think every morning when i get out of my house, once i reach the train station, i feel like that's the point where i should turn back, and go back to bed... warm... cozy bed...
Obama has been president for 3 weeks (?), and hes done NOTHING!!!!, WHY DOESN'T HE HURRY UP!!, haha, joking.
Jokes aside, i really hope this semester i actually begin taking care of my grades and stuff, I've really slacked off the past year or two... or three.. =D. So far, i like this College Writing class, even though CHRIS is on my case when it comes to speaking/reading for the class, ugh.
Sorry for my extremely immature comment by the way, i just tend to add humor to EVERYTHING. =)

This is a major turning point of my life. This past semster (fall semester) was about doing work and waiting for the big exams coming up. The spring semester is going to be about working really hard to pass regents, SAT's and ACT's and AP Exams. Even though this means alot of stress, I still can't wait for the spring and for June to come.

umm hello....i really dont know what to answer to cause im new here but i think its to the question in the other page and how i feel about the school closing and i think its bad for the students because we were on of the schools that helped all the students that needed help and we helped the students that couldnt even speak english when they got here so now that the school is closing we cant do that no more so we cant help no more kids which is sad because where will they go now?

To another school... =P

Nice shout out Adam.
Ha ha, had to be you to turn "such a serious issue," into a complete joke.
I really have no clue what to say because I'm rather indifferent about this oh so unfortunate, "Brandeis Phasing Out" predicament. I have to say, it really blows for the scholars because you guys are basically our school's celebrities. There's so much available to the Scholar's Academy and so many teachers willing to encourage you guys, the kind of support that may be hard to find at another school, so I can see why it definitely blows for you little homies.
As for myself, along with my pal Adam, there's no use in fighting it because we're graduating. The only complaint I have is that years from now, I'll have no highschool to visit. Come the day I have kids, God forbid, jk jk, who am I going to brag to about my "Badass accomplishments" during highschool? I'll tell you; No one!

Whatever though, it's gonna be okay. Just have some ice cream, that always makes things better.

(This is Chris btw.)

Hey Chris, who the heck wants kids?
jk jk.
Yea, come to think of it, i wont be able to visit the school if i come for a vacation or something to NY, eh.
At least no one else will have to withstand the wrath of the Messinio.
Ugh, oh god, i hope she doesnt visit this blog.
By the way, this is NOT Adam.
=D

Joking of course. <3

UMMM OKAYY..... I JUS REALIZED THAT I REALLY LIKE THIS SCHOOL, LIKE A LOT. I DONT WANNA GO EVEN THOUGH EVERYBODY SAID TO LEAVE. I WANNA STAY BECAUSE I DONT WANNA LEAVE MY FRIENDS AND TEACHERS. IM COMFORTABLE WHERE I'M AT, AND I DONT WANT THAT FEELING TO GO AWAY. I ALSO REALLY LOVE THE SCHOLARS. ME AND CAZIA WAS TALKING ABOUT IT, AND WE REALIZED SOMETHING THAT EXPRESSES OUR TURNING POINT. "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU GOT TILL ITS GONE." WHEN WE FIRST CAME INTO SHOLARS, EVERYONE WAS COMPLAINING. SAYING "O0O0 I DONT WANNA BE HERE ANYMORE, I WANT TO BE IN A REGULAR CLASS", BUT NOW THAT THE SCHOLARS MIGHT NOT EXIST ANYMORE, WE REALLY WANT IT. THE SCHOLARS ACADEMY IS A GREAT ACADEMY AND ITS A GREAT OPPURTUNITY. HOPEFULLY WE WILL STILL HAVE IT, AND IF WE DO IM DEFINATELY NOT LEAVING.

So Lucky, Roselline and I were at the protest today. I must say i'm very impressed at the amount of people that showed up. I was expecting it to be only a couple of scholars and a few teachers who have been there for 1,000 years (like ms springer!) okay but anyways... it really touched me the fact that somebody showed they cared. me rosie and Lucky were talking about how good we felt after we left. We felt as if even though we might not change anything, we still stood up for what we believe in and made an effort for change. We felt accomplished. As if we had done our good deed of the day =) it was a good feeling and i wished i could have seen more people there!

I heard about the protest on Facebook.
I hope the 7 people that went enjoyed it.

The fact that Brandeis is closing really bugs me out. Even though I've only had one semester in the school, I feel really comfortable. I like the classes, the teachers and the students and the fact that in a few yeas there will be no Brandies really bothers me.
