Since we're focusing on making our writing more descriptive, I lingered on the following description of Chillingworth as he spots Hester Prynn for the first time in The Scarlet Letter: "A writhing horror twisted itself across his features, like a snake gliding swiftly over them..." I can visualize his expression changing into something dark and furious through this original simile.

Quote from Macbeth written by William Shakespear
Macbeth's quote:
"your face my, thane, is as a book ere men May read strange matter. To beguile the time, Look Like the time: bear welcome in your eyes, your hand, your tongue , look like innocent flower, but be the serpent under it.""

This quote is said by Macbeth to his wife Lady Macbeth in a big scene when his ambitions starts to control his actions. Macbeth is in a reunion with friend banquo when he orders his wife to act like a innocent flower, knowing that she a serpent underneath. In Flashback Lady Macbeth had told Macbeth about being a coward, now Macbeth's ambitions to become king has cause him to act like a serpent. This is ironic because his wife had filled Macbeth with ideas, now macbeth has made her into a victim of his own.

I wrote this poem last year in Ms. Stransky's honors Class.

Serpiente
by:D.D.Phills

Halsey Street
and a long silver train
slowing down and hissing
white steam
like a wounded snake
with many cuts in its side
i step into the belly of the beast
the hiss!
wounds healing
I'm trapped
the snake begins to crawl.

I didn't really know what would be a cool passage to post up here, but I think I've found one. I hope you Children like, = ].

"In fields of green, vast as the oceans
Is this a dream, is it evermore?
A million years, fast as a notion
I stand alone here on the silent shore

I'm after prey in the fields
Shelter in a cave from the cold and lonely nights
And now it all seems so real
Warming at the fireside beneath the pale moonlight

This is the dawn of time
I am the first to stand
Looking through the eyes of the primal man
This is the dawn of time
Witnessing the birth
I am the first man on earth

The skies of blue reach to the heavens
They go on and on forevermore
No avenues, no city sidewalks
Planet Mars is but ancient lore

This place has all that I need
No computers glowing screens, no industrial machines
Somehow it all seems surreal
Memories of days gone by, a slowly fading scene

No one here to blame me
No one here to hurt
So much space here to occupy my mind
I can breathe the breath of virgin land

The firefly at nighttime
The sounds of nothing known
And I belong here like I never have before
The wandering child returning home

When twilight falls, red is the sunset
Planets appear across the colored sky
No prison walls, no war, no bloodshed
Hard to believe this new world will die

I wish that I could stay for a while
In the dream world that the sequencer creates
And though it all seems so real
Now I fear the time is gone, I feel its heavy weight

Hold on to this moment in time
Savor a life how it used to be
Hold on to the world in its prime
Breathe in the air, feel the energy"

-Arjen

They're obviously lyrics, but hey, I can still visualize the speakers Idea of the infant Earth.

This quote is from the book; Julius Caesar. It was written by William Shakespeare. I read this book in class last year. Ever since then this was my favorite quote!
Quote:
"Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once."

This quote means that the purpose in life is to make mistakes and risks, but also to learn from them. If you are a coward and don't take risks, then you are missing the purpose of life many times. On the other hand, if you are a brave person and taking risks all of the time then you are living your life to the fullest. When you do die you will only die once because you lived out your life the way its supposed to be lived out, ans that's by taking risks.

From Da Tradgedy of Othello
This iiS Taylor - Dawn... by the way
DESDEMONA::
My mother had a maid call'd Barbara:
She was in love, and he she loved proved mad
And did forsake her: she had a song of 'willow;'
An old thing 'twas, but it express'd her fortune,
And she died singing it: that song to-night
Will not go from my mind; I have much to do,
But to go hang my head all at one side,
And sing it like poor Barbara. Prithee, dispatch.

This is only quote in any literature that has ever touched my heart so deeply... when i read it had tears in my eyes. If u have completely read The Tragedy of Othello you will understand why Desdemona felt this way.

quote from the outsiders..
"we saw the same sunset"

i love this quote from the outsiders because this is an emotion that the book is showing. this is great because 1.One reason why is that no matter what class you are or who you are. you don't know the inner person. 2.Another reason why is because this can really happen in real life by that i mean the fact that us as teenagers we they first to judge anyone by the way the person look acts. we as teenagers don't see the real person behind our appearence..
This book THE OUTSIDERS is one of the best book ever..

Excellent everyone! I am so impressed with all of the Shakespeare quotes/discussions. Way to get in there Taylor! I'm looking forward to studying Shakespeare with the 9th graders.

Marisol, I'm thrilled you are enjoying The Outsiders. I emailed S.E. Hinton to invite her to videoconference with us, so hopefully she'll email back soon!

My life with out you

My life without you is like the sky not being blue. It’s like being broken into pieces and cant be put back together with glue. It’s like turning into dust and being swept away with a broom. So everything I see is so gloomy.
All my good days are turned to bad days, and all my bad days are turned to mad days, and all my mad days are turned to sad days.
Staying in on Saturdays forgetting about birthdays and down I lay thinking there is no way I can live my life without you.
You are the cement on the ground I walk on (so strong). You’re the rain that falls on me (above all). You’re the heart that pounds in my body (needing you). You’re the sun that lights up my day (nice person). Just like the fruit in my yogurt parfait (so good to me). You’re everything that allows me to move on each and every day. Because of you I prey. No one can have a clue that I just can’t live my life without you.

well i didn't writ this or read it in a book i heard it in a game i played 1 day n loved it so hare it is hope its ok its called loveless.

Loveless

Prologue
When the war of the beasts brings about the world’s end
The goddess descends from the sky
Wings of light and dark spread afar
She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting.

Act I
Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess
We seek it thus, and take it to the sky
Ripples form on the water’s surface
The wandering soul knows no rest.

Act II
There is no hate, only joy
For you are beloved by the goddess
Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds
Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul
Pride is lost
Wings stripped away, the end is nigh.

Act III
My friend, do you fly away now?
To a world that abhors you and I?
All that awaits you is a somber morrow
No matter where the winds may blow
My friend, your desire
Is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess
Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return.

Act IV
My friend, the fates are cruel
There are no dreams, no honor remains
The arrow has left the bow of the goddess
My soul, corrupted by vengeance
Hath endured torment, to find the end of the journey
In my own salvation
And your eternal slumber
Legend shall speak
Of sacrifice at world’s end
The wind sails over the water’s surface
Quietly, but surely.

Act V
Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return
To become the dew that quenches the land
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice.

A part I really like in The Outsiders was when Ponyboy said he wanted to escape into the country: " In the country... I love the country. I only wanted to lie on my back under a tree and read a book or draw a picture.."

I like this quote because it brings me to think that everyone wants to escape at some point in there life. They want to leave and just have time to themselves, catch up on things, etc.

Hey. I read "The House on Mango Street",by Sandra Cisneros during summer vacation, and their was one specific quote that stand out."Until then I am a red balloon, a balloon tied to an anchor."Esperanza lives in a dead-end neighborhood, and she'd been longing to escape Mango Street, and fulfill her dreams. But she knew that by staying in Mango street she might as well flush her dreams down the toilet. I think what Esperanza is trying to say is that, she feels she is floating in hope for something. She was very specific about the color, so red probably represents her standing out in Mango Street. And of course the anchor means she's trapped and can't escape the dead-end neighborhood known as Mango Street. Well not now anyway. Thanks for reading. Bye.:)

"...i like to watch movies undisturbed so i can get into them and live them with the actors."

i like this quote because it makes me think that even if he is a greaser he is not a bad person, he is not what most people think he is, which is a delinquent or something. Also this is exactly how i feel but with books, i love to read books espeacially The Outsiders.

I once heard....no actually I once read in Alice in wonderland something that has always stuck with me since the sixth grade. Here it is :

Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
~Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

If you don't know what you wish to be or where you wish to go, it matters not which way you do go. It only matters what it is that you DO infact do WHEN you take that path.... thats how I interpret it....hopefully You find this intriguing Ms. Levine

I think I'll share one of my favourite quotes.
"The act of writing eased his tension. He read over what he had done. The words gave him a sharp pang of pain. Why must death always be certain? Could he never escape....."
From The Man Who Was Poe by Avi.
I ike this quote because it affects readers in different ways, depending on the person. How has it affected you?

Just for random effect, here's a part of a song I wrote recently.

"Say goodbye to all those broken dreams
Things were never meant to go the way they seemed
You were living for tomorrow
Hoping to see something coming back
For today
But we knew, today had ended
Too long ago for memories to form
And our dreams were long gone
I can't believe these things become so undone."
There's No Tomorrow. (the period is purposely there!) by myself, of course :3
Hope you like it.

I am currently reading a book in my Ap english class called Beowulf by Burton Raffel who is not the original arthur. The original author of this text has passed this poem to one person and that person did the same thing until it reached what we call the present. It is an exciting book full of kings and warriors. A qoute that I would like to share with all of you is "For the Geats;help against Grendel was with them and through the might of a single man they would win. Who doubts that God in his wisdom and strength holds the earth forever in His hands?"(44)
I like this quote because, it shows that they are comparing Beowulf to God himself. They are also saying that it is Beowulf's destiny to kill grendel on his own. Which I believe display God-like qualities.

Hey ms. Levine first time for everything. I'm not really into this but I guess I can get used to it.
Here's a quote from my sister's book which I've seem to take an interest upon....
GUESS!!

The monster would have murdered again and again had not God, and the hero's courage, turned fate aside. Then and now men must line in their Maker's holy hands, moved only as He wills: Our hearts must seek out that will. The world, and its long days full of labor brings good and evil; all who remain here meet both.

i heard this somewhere before.

Whats the difference between the "king" & the "horse"? Im not asking you like some little kids riddle, where the answer would be "ones a human & the other an animal" or "one has two legs while the other has four."

Assuming two existences had the exact same from, ability, & even power.

Why is it that one becomes the king and controlsthe battle, while the other becomes the horse & carries the king?

IM asking u : whats the difference between the two?

Theres only one answer.

It's Instinct.

In order for identical beings to get stronger & gain the power they need to become king they must search for power.

Whats needed is an absolute lust for battle.

Hidden deep within the core of our bodies, lies the honed instinct to kill, to slaughter.

The air is full of hints of grief,Strange voices touched with pain The pathos of the falling leaf And rustling of the rain.
- Thomas Bailey Aldrich
He is referring to Twilight.

She bids you on the wanton rushes lay you down And rest your gentle head upon her lap,
And she will sing the song that pleaseth you
And on your eyelids crown the god of sleep,
Charming your brood with pleasing heaviness,
Making such difference 'twixt wake and sleep
As is the difference betwixt day and nightThe hour before the heavenly-harnessed teamBegins his golden progress in the east.
- William Shakespeare,
King Henry the Fourth, Part I

Shakespeare is referring to the sunrise.

Ponyboy says, "We could take whatever was coming now." I think Ponyboy and Johnny has gone through so much already that Ponyboy doesn't think that there's anything in the world that can be worse than what their going through, so everything there and on will be easier for them. They could handle whatever the world throws at them because they've been through so much, and their ready to fight for their freedom even though their scared.

everyone has really amazing pieces of literature. =]
It was kind of hard to think of something of intrest, but heres something id like to share:

One of my favorite authours is Paulo Coehlo. In one of his novels,he wrote something thats usually in the back of my mind:
"There are two kinds of ways to suffer,to wait or to forget, but not knowing which to do is the worst kind of pain".

To me this line represents how torn people are when theyre faced with a decision concerning someone they love.

But then again, to contemplate the nature of love is like taking a stroll in a field of mines(hidden bombs). Once you think you understand it--BOOM! the concept gets blown up

to me, love is elusive, full of pain and beauty.Love is necessary to existance, and yes its risky but worth the risk and pain.

~Gissaury

i'd really love to hear anyones elses view on this quote. And sry for rambling on.

Fanny said...

I didn't know what to write, so I looked up one of William Shakespeare's quotes. William Shakespeare:"A wretched soul, bruised with adversity,
We bid be quiet when we hear it cry;
But were we burdened with like weight of pain,
As much or more we should ourselves complain" In other words a poor soul, bruised, and misfortune they hear crying and order IT(NOT HUMAN) to be quit, but they had this weight on their shoulders(not a monkey but),pain, they felt sorrow for the IT. And as much or more pain as the IT, they should(themselves) complain to someone.

"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true?" Merely vague concepts... their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?"

Here's another poem that I wrote last year:

The phone calls
Dates on Saturday nights
Our first kiss
Is this what I think it means
To fall in love
The very sight of him
Makes my heart race
My stomach tingle
Oh My Goodness
I think it's love
Finally
God how I've waited
For the feeling
Of love
I hope we last
And not another false hope
I hope I can show him the love
I know he deserves...

The title is: Love

Today I went to the race of the cure(cancer walk) and it was exhausting. Although I had a sore throat at the end of the the day(11:30am), I had a great time. We cheered everyone in the race of the cure. It was as we cured cancer ourself, It was as we all new each other. Everyone was so grateful that we were cheering them on. Life was full of joy for the first time, no violence, just happiness. We tried to cheer about anything that would put a smile on their faces, and trust me it worked. They came either next to us, or just looked at us,and said "thank you", "thank you for volunteering", "thank you for being here", and they even hugged some volunteers. They gave you this amazing look/smile that just said THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO ME THAT YOU GUYS ARE HERE INVOLVED AND SUPPORTING THE RACE TO THE CURE. THANK YOU AND I MEAN THAT FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. It feel so good when you do something just for the good of it. I did it for community service, but I would do it in a heart beat for the good of it, if it was a SAT. or a SUN. and I wasn't busy. It's a good thing to do something for someone but yourself, and theres no way to describe the feeling it gives you.

Music and Lyrics

What is the music?
The music is the blood
That flows endlessly
The music is the blood
That helps pump the air that I breathe
The music’s in my blood
Though no one can see

What is the lyric?
The lyric is the body
That moves to the beat
Made to make rhythums
And rock to the beat
The lyric is the body
That I move so skillfully
The lyric is my body
That no one can take from me

So I say
In praise to my glorious blood
And my temple of a body
Hail!
They is a nonstop stereo
To my nonstop rhythum and flow

Jeez, these people are seriously bloggin' up in this heezy son!
I'm gonna follow the trend and be cool just like you people here, but let's spice it up a notch, with some more lyrics. = ]

[Sleeper:]
Shine-lake of fire
Lines take me higher
My mind drips desire
Confined and overtired

Living this charade
Is getting me nowhere
I can`t shake this charade
The city`s cold blood calls me home
Home it`s what I long for
Back home where I belong

The city - it calls to me
Decadent scenes from my memory
Sorrow - eternity
My demons are coming to drown me

Help - I`m falling, I`m crawling
I can`t keep away from its clutch
Can`t have it, this habit
It`s calling me back to my home

[Miracle:]
I remember the first time she came to me
Poured her soul out all night and cried

I remember I was told there`s a new love that`s born
For each one that has died

I never thought that I
Could carry on with this life
But I can`t resist myself
No matter how hard I try

Living their other life
Is getting them nowhere
I`ll make her my wife
Her sweet temptations calls me home
Home it`s what I long for
My home where she belongs

Her ecstasy - means so much to me
Even deceiving my own blood
Victoria watches and thoughtfully smiles
She`s taking me to my home

Help - he`s my brother, but I love her
I can`t keep away from her touch
Deception, dishonor
It`s calling me back to my home

[N:]
Her story - it holds the key
Unlocking dreams from my memory
Solving this mystery
Is everything that is a part of me

Help - regression, obsession
I can`t keep away from her touch
Leave no doubt, to find out
It`s calling me back to my home
- James

The beauty of these lyrics is all there, I've no reason to explode it for all you readers. Explode the lyrics sometime and maybe just maybe I'll explain what's really going on here. Hi, Ms. Levine! = ]

Hi All-Ms. Tartaglione from the library here! I am so enjoying reading all of your posts! It warms my librarian-heart to see you excited about what you read!

Here's a quote I LOVE that I read on the subway this morning from Rachel Cohn and David Levithan's "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist":

"There's no such thing as ready," she says. "There's only willing."

I think this quote perfectly describes how I have made every decision in my life thus far--I always over-analyze and over-think. So even though I never feel ready, I force myself to be willing and dive in!

Look out for the "Nick and Norah..." the movie coming out soon and the book to be appearing in the library!

i love this poem by Brian Quinn
HOPES

When all about you is black with gloom,
And all you feel is pending doom.
When your bones are racked with grim despair -
When every breath is a gasp for air.
Keep on going, though you need to grope,
For around the bend is a ray of hope.

A ray of hope is perhaps all that's left,
As your will to live has been bereft.
You've lost it all, it's just no use!
You can end it all, you need no excuse.
But throw away that piece of rope,
And give yourself a chance of hope.

Just give yourself another day,
Brushing aside what your thoughts may say.
This is your life and you can make a new start,
By ignoring the brain - just follow the heart.
Taking baby steps in order to cope,
And minute by minute you'll build on your hope.

Build on your hope,. one day at a time,
Though the road be steep and hard to climb.
The hurts of the past - they should be dead.
The fears of the future are all in your head.
Just live in the present and refuse to mope
Your life will sparkle for you're living in hope.

This poem is very touching and can get people to realize that there are things that aren't impossible to accomplish in life. People should just have some hope in them and never say "NO".

Shout out to Angicel!! keep up the good work.. loved that poem girl =]

It courses through the cables laid for it.

We are too close. Too late, we would move back.
We are involved with the surge.

Now it bursts. Now it has been announced.
Now it is being soaked up by newspapers.
Now it is running through the streets.
The crowd has it. The woman selling carnations
And the man in the straw hat stand with it in their shoes.

Here is the red marquee it sheltered under.
Here is the ballroom, here
The sadly various orchestra led
By a single gesture. My arms open.
It enters. Look, we are dancing.

The Missing Person

He has come to report himself

A missing person.

The authorities

Hand him the forms.

He knows how they have waited

With the learned patience of barbers

In small shops, idle,

Stropping their razors.

But now that these spaces in his life

Stare up at him blankly,

Waiting to be filled in,

He does not now how to begin.

Afraid that he might not answer

To his description of himself,

He asks for a mirror.

They reassure him

That he can be nowhere

But wherever he finds himself

>From moment to moment

Which, for the moment, is here.

And he might like to believe them.

But in the mirror

He sees what is missing.

It is himself

He sees there emerging

Slowly, as from the dark

Of a furnished room

Only by darkness,

One who receives no mail

And is known to the landlady only

For keeping himself to himself,

and for whom it will be years yet

Before he can trust to the light

This last disguise, himself.

I read that Justice poem last year when Ms. Russ was teaching his poetry. That one was my favorite :)

I think struggling with defining (or finding) our identities can resonate with all of us. I think it's important to think of our identities as fluid, not static.

And I also believe that we should put ourselves in situations, or surround ourselves with people, with whom we feel we are the "best version" of ourselves.

We should ask ourselves if the life choices we make are consistent with the notions we have of ourselves. Does it match up?

Thanks for sharing, Chris. Hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful Sunday. See ya tomorrow...

I think this could go for Roger Chillingworth fighting for pride because he could of killed Arthur Dimmesdale a log time ago.

“Remember this well. There are two kind of fights. As long as we place ourselves in battle, we must always know the difference: fights to defend life… and fights to defend pride….”

After reading chapter fourteen, my view of Hester Prynne has changed. I am becoming very inspired by her choices. Before, Hester made a choice to keep Roger Chillingworth's identity a secret. Now, she has decided that maybe she shouldn't have done that and tries to correct her mistakes. Hester decides to talk to Chillingworth about how she has to let his identity be known because while keepng his identity a secret she is helping Chillingworth to destroy Dimmsdale. In the book on page 191 it says; "...that there could be no good event for him, for thee, or me, who are here wandering together in this gloomy maze of evil, and stumbling at every step, over the guilt wherewith we have strewn our path." Hester is letting Chillingworth know that she is no longer keeping his identity a secret and that the longer they continue in life with guilt and secrets, the longer it will take for them to move on in life. In the end Chillingworth doesn't agree, and continues to gather herbs to "treat" Dimmsdale.

This quote means that a writing horror can twist meaning that anything ccan be tooken a certain way. For an example if Ms.Levine said People live freely; people can say ohh that means we have our rights or people can say people live how they want. Theres many perceptions oh how this could be taken...

Danse Russe

If when my wife is sleeping

and the baby and Kathleen

are sleeping

and the sun is a flame-white disk

in silken mists

above shining trees,--

if I in my north room

dance naked, grotesquely

before my mirror

waving my shirt round my head

and singing softly to myself:

"I am lonely, lonely.

I was born to be lonely,

I am best so!"

If I admire my arms, my face,

my shoulders, flanks, buttocks

against the yellow drawn shades,--

Who shall say I am not

the happy genius of my household?

(William Carlos Williams)

All I have to say is, just because you see a person, doesn't mean that you actually know who they are. See, We're all living, breathing Illusions, including every single one of you here on this blog. That's why it's best to keep your conjectures on a person locked inside your mind before you blindly judge them, then find out that you're completely wrong(jeez, how emo was that?)

Teenagers like ourselves get influenced very easily. We go through hard times, and we have some great times. Most of us learn the hard way, and some of us never learn the way AT ALL.
1. Life is very difficult at times and we're all going to go through a time that we're going to feel like just giving up on life, but we should never let anything get in the way of our happiness.
2. Something happened that might ruin your day, ignore it and look at the positive side of things and/or hope for the best.
Every morning I wake up and put a big old smile on my face. If I don't feel like it I try to look at the positive side of things, and still put a big old smile on my face. I also talk to my friend night and day everyday and although he doesn't reply back he helps me through a lot of things. You can do what I do or do something else that might help you through the day. I actually got the idea out of a fortune cookie. It said that to begin your day with a smile and my day will go great. You may say that it's stupid but I'm going to have to disagree with you, knowing that since the day I opened that fortune cookie my days haven't been that bad.

William Shakespeare:
"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages."

This is interesting because it describes his point of view of the world. That it is just a stage and the people that live in it are the actors.

i think that it was smart for S.E. Hilton to start and end her book as Ponyboy's theme because it was interesting for the reader.

I THINK THE OUTSIDERS WAS A GREAT BOOK. IT WAS VERY INTERESTING. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS SOMETHING TEENAGERS CAN RELATE TO. THE MOVIE WAS NOT AS GOOD AS THE BOOK BUT IT WAS STILL GOOD. IT SKIPPED THE PART WHEN PONYBOY WAS WALKING HOME FROM THE THEATERS BY HIMSELF, THEN THE SOCS CAME, BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I WAS MAD. I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD OF INTRODUCED THE CHARACTERS FROM THAT PART. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COOLER.

I think that the book "The Outsiders" is better than the movie because the book is more detailed than the movie, so whatever the character is feeling we are able to know about.

I have just finished reading the outsiders by s.e. hinton which was a really good book.suggest for others to read it also...many people can maybe relate to the narrator.

I'm reading the twilight seriesw now and I'm completely in love! It's hard for me to put the book down and stop reading it. I wake up every morning just to read that book. I'm on new moon now, but i love the quote on the back cover of twilight. It says " About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edawrd was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him-and I didn't know how dominiant that part might be- that thirted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him." I hope this comment inspires people to read this book. It's amazing!(We should really go on a trip to see this movie!)

I'm currently reading the novel, "The Garden," by Elsie V. Aidinoff. It is an intriguing and ecclectic story. Certainly a page turner. I reccomend it to everyone, because it is an astonishing interpretation of how Adam, Eve, and the garden of Eden came about!

The book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton was a very exciting book and as i read it was extremly hard to put down, I would rcomend this book to everyone i know.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Hugo that it was a good idea for S.E Hinton to start and end the book with Ponyboy's theme because it does make a book more interesting and thrilling to read over and over again. The novel was well organized and made it easier for teens to relate to the characters.

I found The Outsiders to be a very great book. I enjoyed reading about Ponyboy, Johnny Cade, Dallas Winston and all the other Greasers. After watching the movie I realized that reading the book is sometimes better because it left out some of the parts to the story that I was interested in reading. But overall i enjoyed it.

Hey guys!!
Last year I read Julius Caesar by Shakespeare on Mrs.Gaine's class and I loved it. This book is about the reasons of the assassination of the dictator of the Roman Republic(Caesar). I love this book because it's based on a true story and also because it's entertaining.
Btw, my favorite quote from the novel is when Caesar is being assassinated and he notices that one of his bestfriends(Marcus Brutus) is one of the conspirators, and he says "Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar!".
I love this quote because is kind of amazing to imagine that a person would assassinate one of his bestfriends just to help their country.

I have been reading a great Spanish author Arturo Perez-Reverte. His translated books are contemporary thriller/mysteries that involve true historical facts, mixed with fictional characters and plots. Each descriptive paragraph reads like poetry. I would recommend the multi layered "The Club Dumas" as a starter.

Hey...

Im currently reading the book "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer and it is one of the GREATEST books i have ever read. It just like an average love story, except, it also brings challenges one might have if they feel in love with a vampire. The questions, limitaions and possible dangers. However im not goin to say any more about it. You'll just have to read it for yourself. Trust me you wont be sorry.

Im back again.....and i just saw the trailer for the movie "Twilight", and..WOW...thats all i can say. While watching the trailer i could easily see which part of the book they were portraying. I think this might be one movie where it is just as good as the movie. Instead of the book being much beter than it. I cant wait till i see it.

Hey guys, is me again. In our class we are reading a book called "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee & I have to admit that this is one of the best books that I've ever read. My favorite character is Atticus because he's like so wise, and has a solution to every problem & because he treats his kids as if they were adults. If all parents were like Atticus, this would be a better world!

Today my class was introduce to Jackie from MOMA. It was a great experience to talk to someone that actually knows about the MOMA. And being someone that doesn't know anything about the MOMA I was really grateful for that opportunity. We also got to see some pictures of the MOMA, which was pretty cool. If you haven't gotten the chance to see some pictures of the MOMA, you should.

Over the weekend, i went to Florida, and on the flight i read a novel by author Sonya Sones called What My Girlfriend Doesn't Know. It was GREAT!! Not only did it deal with things that teens our age deal with, but it expressed the thoughts and feelings of a confused boy. He hides things but he really doesnt know if it is the right thing to do by doing so. I finished it in less than two days because i was anxious to know what was going to happen next and because at 2:32 in the morning my mom wanted me to go to bed so i wouldnt wake up at 2 in the afternoon! Instead, i turned out the lights and used my phone light to continue reading(DONT DO THIS: IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR EYES!).

I highly recommend this book to ALL the readers who like to read about reality and teens their age. I bet you'll love it as much as i did!

Well
I didn't know where else to blog about the community service I did on Sunday, November 10
So here it shall be posted:
Sunday was Teensgiving day, a day to give back to the community. Teenagers from all around the city gathered at the 92nd Y and were given different tasks to do.
For example, Group 3, my group, was sent to an alzheimer's home of the elderly.
There we did arts & crafts and made Thanksgiving cards to be sent out to whomever the elderly pleased.
During this time, we got to bond with some of the elders.
Then the volunteers ate lunch, while the elders ate in the dining room.
After we played BINGO and the elders won prizes if they won.
It was a nice experience because it makes me want to appreciate my family and life more, the elders in that home didn't choose to be in that home, though its cozy, welcoming, and all, your family still isn't there.
Some were forced there because of health circumstances and others were put there by their own family members...
It was really sad to come across....

Hey guys, it's Fanny
and for all you book lovers out there I would gladly recommend you reading "GEOGRAPHY CLUB". And P.S don't worry the book isn't about geography. It's about a gay kid feeling like he's the only one in school like himself(gay I mean). But then he soon finds other kids (boy's & girls) like himself in school who have also been hiding their true identities. Of course eventually they find a way to meet and talk amongst them selves. If you want to find out why they named their club the "GEOGRAPHY CLUB" then I highly recommend you read the book. A page turning journey through love, sexuality, friendship, and acceptance written by BRENT HARTINGER.
